On June 9, Dr. Gulsun Yildirim, Associate Professor of Tourism College of Recep Tayyip Erdogan University of Turkey, was invited by the School of Agricultural Engineering of GVTC to give a webinar entitled “Overview of Turkish Tea Culture” to more than 400 teachers and students from Major Group of Tea Tree Cultivation and Tea Leaf Processing.
Dr. Gulsun mainly showed the audience the unique tea culture in Turkey from several aspects, including the history of tea culture development in Turkey, tea planting and processing in Turkey, traditional tea boiling methods, tea rituals, and tea customs, as well as Turkish tea-drinking habits, etc. In her lecture, Dr. Gulsun introduced that Turkish people love tea as much as Chinese people do. Unlike China, Turkey does not have Tea Art, and there is no special ceremony for drinking tea. But tea is everywhere, and drinking tea has become a part of their cultural life. During the lecture, Dr. Gulsun discussed “What does tea mean to you?”. The students on-site discussed and interacted actively and expressed their views, and the atmosphere was very active.
This tea culture webinar is one of the serial lectures “Silk Road Tea Culture Master Lecture” initiated by Major Group of Tea Tree Cultivation and Tea Leaf Processing. Silk Road Tea Culture Master Lecture is a project aiming at enhancing the major’s internationalization level, promoting the international exchange of tea culture, enhancing the global vision of the teachers and students, and grasping the new trend of the development of the international tea industry, and tea culture in the future.
